Jamy Stillman is an Associate Professor of Equity, Bilingualism, and Biliteracy and Chair of the Teacher Learning, Research, and Practice (TLRP) program at the University of Colorado Boulder. She holds affiliate roles as a fellow of the National Educational Policy Center and previously served as Chair of the Elementary Teacher Education Licensure Program and Co-Director of Teacher Education. Her career began as a bilingual teacher in Watsonville, CA, followed by faculty positions at Barnard College and USC’s Rossier School of Education.
Dr. Stillman’s research focuses on intersections between teacher education, educational policy, and classroom instruction in high-poverty schools serving marginalized communities. She investigates how teachers navigate restrictive policies while cultivating equitable practices, particularly for bilingual learners. Current work explores preparing justice-centered teacher educators and disrupting whiteness in teacher training.
Her publications span qualitative research on teacher learning, policy analysis, and curriculum design in bilingual contexts. Notable works include Teaching for Equity in Complex Times (2017) and co-edited Teaching to Change the World (2013/2018). Her scholarship emphasizes critical pedagogies like Freirean Culture Circles and Boalian theatre to foster educator consciousness.
