Professor Jamie Shulmeister is an Honorary Professor in the School of the Environment at the University of Queensland. His research focuses on Quaternary science, glaciology, and paleoclimatology with a particular emphasis on reconstructing past environmental and climatic changes through sedimentary, geomorphological, and proxy-based analyses. He has extensive expertise in coastal dynamics, Holocene climate variability, and glacial and fluvial systems. His work integrates field studies, laboratory analyses, and numerical modeling to understand landscape evolution and human-environment interactions.
Shulmeister's contributions include studies on New Zealand's glacial systems, Australian coastal dunes, and monsoon-driven hydroclimate patterns in Asia. He has collaborated internationally on projects such as the SHeMax initiative to refine Southern Hemisphere glacial chronology. His publications span Quaternary Science Reviews, Nature Geoscience, and other high-impact journals, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to Earth system science.
His research has addressed topics ranging from Holocene fire regimes to treeline dynamics, demonstrating a commitment to understanding both natural and human-influenced environmental changes. He has advised numerous research projects and contributed to environmental management strategies, particularly in coastal and riverine ecosystems.
