Jamie Fiste serves as Associate Professor of Cello at Central Michigan University's School of Music since 2000, recognized as the 2024 MASTA Teacher of the Year. An internationally active performer, he has presented recitals and chamber music across Europe (Hungary, France, Spain, Germany) and throughout North America at institutions including University of North Carolina School of the Arts, University of Notre Dame, and major festivals like the International Viola Congress and American Viola Society Festival.
Dr. Fiste earned his B.M. from University of Illinois, M.M. from University of Notre Dame, and D.M.A. from University of Illinois under Karen Buranskas and Laurien Laufman, with masterclasses from Janos Starker and Fritz Magg. His educational foundation began with Kathleen Lester of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra during youth string quartet camps with the Fine Arts Quartet.
His professional focus centers on String Performance (Cello), Chamber Music, and Music Pedagogy with specialized interest in technical integration within holistic music-making. Dr. Fiste maintains deep commitment to string education through frequent public school masterclasses across Michigan, faculty advising for CMU's ASTA student chapter, and oversight of after-school string programs taught by ASTA members.

His teaching spans university instruction, pre-college pedagogy since 1986, and former middle/high school orchestra directorship in New Mexico during the 1990s.
Dr. Fiste maintains active festival engagements including Saarburg Music Festival (Germany), Baroque on Beaver (Beaver Island), and Leelanau Summer Music Festival, frequently collaborating with internationally renowned artists while continuing Hong Kong collaborations through Music for our Young International Festival.
