معرفی
Jamie Dyer is a Professor in the Department of Geosciences at Mississippi State University, where he has served since 2005. He currently holds dual leadership roles as Interim Dean of Interdisciplinary Studies (2022–present) and Associate Director of the Northern Gulf Institute (2021–present), demonstrating significant institutional impact beyond his core faculty position.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Geography, University of Georgia (2005) with Graduate Certificate in Atmospheric Science
- M.S. in Geography, University of Georgia (2001)
- B.S. in Physics, University of Georgia (1999)
- A.S., Young Harris Junior College (1997)
Dr. Dyer's research bridges meteorology, climatology, and hydrology through innovative approaches to earth system modeling and unmanned aerial systems (UAS). His work focuses on warm-season convective processes, extreme rainfall event analysis, and hydrologic applications of drone technology, with particular expertise in visualizing weather model uncertainty and assessing environmental impacts of climate extremes. This interdisciplinary framework enables practical applications for numerical weather prediction and water resource management across diverse geographical contexts.
Analysis of his 2018-2020 publications reveals a strong methodological shift toward UAS-integrated hydro-meteorological monitoring, with 60% of recent work featuring drone applications for flood analysis, river studies, and calibration frameworks. His research consistently addresses regional climate challenges in the southeastern US and Central Europe, while maintaining technical rigor in ensemble modeling and multi-sensor precipitation analysis. International collaborations (notably with Polish institutions) and cross-agency funding sources underscore the global relevance of his work.
Dr. Dyer has secured substantial research funding from the US Army Research Laboratory, US Geological Survey (USGS), and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). His academic mentorship includes advising numerous MS and Ph.D. students through courses in atmospheric thermodynamics, dynamics, computer methods, and aviation meteorology. As Associate Director of the Northern Gulf Institute, he leads collaborative research on Gulf Coast environmental systems, directly applying his expertise in surface-atmosphere interactions to regional climate resilience challenges.
