His work bridges classical philosophy with contemporary ethical challenges in business, media, computing, and organizational life. He explores how ancient debates about rhetoric and dialectic inform modern questions about ethical influence and decision-making.
His research is supported through the 'Leading Minds' project, which investigates the ethical dimensions of persuasive leadership in modern institutions. He is actively involved in interdisciplinary research groups including the Centre for Aesthetic, Moral and Political Philosophy, Ethics of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, Leadership Ethics, Persuasion and Public Reason, History of Ethics, Moral Psychology, and Ethics, Culture and Decision-Making.
He supervises PhD students in areas including Ancient Philosophy, Well-Being, Responsibility, Philosophy of Mind, Empathy, Virtue, Military Ethics, Trust, and corporate ethics. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Ancient Philosophy, Leadership Ethics, Business Ethics, Computing Ethics, and Media Ethics, and contributes to the online MA in Applied and Professional Ethics and programs in the Business School.
Jamie Dow previously worked in business, including production and purchasing management at Courtaulds Textiles and as a management consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, before pursuing an academic career in philosophy.
