James Woodhall

James Woodhall is an Associate Professor & Extension Specialist in Plant Pathology at the University of Idaho's Department of Entomology, Plant Pathology and Nematology, affiliated with the College of Agricultural & Life Sciences. His role includes overseeing the Plant Clinic at the Parma Research and Extension Center, where he provides diagnostic services and advises growers on plant disease management.

Woodhall holds a Ph.D. from Harper Adams University College (UK, 2004), an M.Sc. from the University of Wolverhampton (UK, 2000), and a B.Sc. from the University of Wales, Bangor (UK, 1999). His research focuses on characterizing plant pathogens, developing diagnostic methods, and understanding disease epidemiology across crops like potatoes, onions, and sugar beets.

His work emphasizes molecular techniques such as real-time PCR, LAMP assays, and next-generation sequencing. Recent publications highlight advancements in detecting pathogens like Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium spp., and Pythium aphanidermatum. He collaborates on projects addressing climate-driven disease outbreaks, bacterial rot surveys, and improving diagnostic tools for field applications.
