Meltem AVAN is an Associate Professor in the Department of Plant Protection at Adıyaman University's Faculty of Agriculture. She holds a Ph.D. in Phytopathology from Ankara University (2020) and specializes in fungal plant diseases, biological control, and sustainable agriculture. Her research targets pathogens like Rhizoctonia solani and focuses on crops including sugar beet, olives, and citrus.
Research Interests: She investigates integrated disease management strategies, emphasizing biocontrol agents, nanotechnology, and precision farming tools. Key areas include:
- Fungal pathogen characterization and diagnostics
- Biological control using microbial antagonists (e.g., Bacillus spp.)
- Chemical and non-chemical disease suppression methods
- Climate change impacts on plant diseases
Her publications (15+ recent articles) reveal a strong focus on:
- Biocontrol efficacy against grapevine and fruit tree diseases
- Olive pathogen identification in Türkiye
- Innovative approaches like essential oils and cold plasma for antifungal treatment
- Remote sensing for weed/disease detection
Projects & Grants: She leads field projects on disease mapping in beans, mulberries, and sugar beets, funded by institutional initiatives. Current work includes:
- Mulberry disease/pest impact studies (2024)
- Fungal agent identification in bean crops (2022)
- Rhizoctonia control in sugar beet (2018–2020)
