James W. Dottin III is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth, Environmental & Planetary Sciences at Brown University. His research focuses on sulfur isotope variations in Ocean Island Basalts, Martian meteorites, pallasite meteorites, and lunar materials to understand planetary volatile cycles and evolution. He leads the Sulfur Isotope Laboratory at Brown (SLAB), which investigates planetary origins and evolution through isotopic analysis. Current research includes sulfur cycling on the Moon, Earth’s deep interior connections to volcanic activity, Mars’ sulfur evolution, and prebiotic molecule formation in the early solar system.
He seeks to recruit students and postdocs for collaborative projects via slab@brown.edu. His work integrates geochemistry with planetary science to address fundamental questions about terrestrial and extraterrestrial body histories.
