Prof. Dr. Andreas Pack is a Professor in the Department of Geochemistry and Isotope Geology at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. His research focuses on planetary formation processes, stable isotope geochemistry, and extraterrestrial material analysis. Key projects include investigations into the Earth-Moon system, triple oxygen isotope variations in terrestrial and planetary materials, and the Mars Sample Return initiative. He leads DFG-funded projects, including the Emmy-Noether Research Group, and collaborates on studies of asteroid Ryugu samples returned by Hayabusa2. His work bridges cosmochemistry, geochemistry, and paleoclimatology, addressing fundamental questions about early Solar System evolution and Earth’s volatile history.
Research interests span the origin of the Moon, paleo-CO₂ reconstruction via bioapatite isotopes, and the application of triple oxygen isotope techniques to meteorites and oceanic cherts. His laboratory specializes in aerodynamic levitation experiments and high-precision isotope analyses. Notable contributions include studies on ureilite parent body differentiation, Martian hydrothermal systems, and the geochemical fingerprinting of planetary core formation processes.
Advising and grants include leadership of interdisciplinary teams on DFG projects PA909/2-1 through PA909/8-1, as well as collaborations with international missions like Mars Sample Return. His lab facilities at the Geoscience Center in Göttingen support advanced analytical workflows, including laser fluorination and secondary ion mass spectrometry.
