James Tartaglia is a Professor of Metaphysical Philosophy and Philosophy Programme Director at Keele University's School of Social Sciences. He holds a BA (Hons.) in Philosophy from University College London (1996), an M.Phil. (1998), and a Ph.D. (2001), both focusing on intentionality and consciousness. Before joining Keele in 2002, he was a Teaching Fellow at UCL and Visiting Lecturer at the University of Birmingham.

Current PhD Supervision: Areas include consciousness, metaphilosophy, metaphysics, and Rorty’s legacy. Current supervisees: Jacob Fox (meaning of life), James O’Leary (imagination), Andy Yu (Heidegger and environment), Flick Grant (metaphysical idealism), and Neil Webb (Rorty).
Publications span journals like Metaphilosophy, Journal of Consciousness Studies, and Human Affairs, with contributions to edited volumes on African philosophy, idealism, and technological ethics. His research also explores transcultural philosophy and global development goals.
