James Robson is an Associate Professor in Human Dimensions of Sustainability and Assistant Director Academic (External) at the School of Environment and Sustainability (SENS), University of Saskatchewan. He also serves as the UNESCO Co-Chair in Biocultural Diversity, Sustainability, Reconciliation and Renewal and the Graduate Chair of SENS. Robson holds a PhD from the University of Manitoba, an MA from the University of Sussex, and a BSc from the University of Liverpool.
His research focuses on environmental governance through collective action, youth roles in community-based governance, migration-environment linkages, and Indigenous and local approaches to biodiversity conservation. He emphasizes biocultural design frameworks and transdisciplinary sustainability science. Recent work explores food systems, community forestry in Mexico, and the impacts of migration on rural governance.
Robson actively mentors graduate students, prioritizing those with interests in his research areas and proficiency in Spanish. He collaborates internationally on projects addressing sustainable development challenges, including UNESCO initiatives and transnational migration studies.
