Dr. Greg Poelzer is a Professor at the School of Environment and Sustainability (SENS) at the University of Saskatchewan. He leads initiatives such as the Renewable Energy in Remote and Indigenous Communities Flagship and co-directs the Community Appropriate Sustainable Energy Security (CASES) SSHRC Partnership Grant (2019–2026). His research focuses on energy transitions, Indigenous-state relations, and sustainable development in northern regions.
Education: PhD (Political Science) from the University of Alberta, MA (Political Science) from Carleton University, and BA (Political Science) from the University of Alberta.
Research Interests: Renewable energy in Indigenous communities, comparative energy policy, Arctic governance, and economic reconciliation. He emphasizes community engagement in energy projects and policy design to ensure equitable outcomes.
Publications: Over 70 articles and books, including Arctic Front: Defending Canada in the Far North (Donner Prize winner) and From Treaty Peoples to Treaty Nation (shortlisted for three awards). Recent work explores AI-driven energy transitions, Arctic sustainability, and institutional reforms in Norway.
Awards: Donner Prize (2010), shortlisted for three book awards (2015). Recognized for contributions to Indigenous policy and energy governance.
Grants & Leadership: Leads the UArctic Thematic Network on Renewable Energy and co-leads the Fulbright Arctic Initiative. Manages multi-million-dollar grants focused on northern communities and sustainable energy solutions.
