Dr. James Oliver is a University Lecturer in Applied Mathematics and Tutorial Fellow at Jesus College, University of Oxford. His academic journey includes a BA, MSc, and DPhil in Mathematics from St Anne’s College, Oxford (1994–2001). He held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Nottingham before returning to Oxford in 2007. His research focuses on fluid dynamics and asymptotic methods applied to free boundary problems in engineering, biology, and industry.
Education: BA Mathematics (St Anne’s College, Oxford), MSc Mathematical Modelling & Numerical Analysis, DPhil Applied Mathematics.
Research interests include violent surface motion, thin-film flows, cellular blebbing, and tissue engineering. He has advised multiple D.Phil students on projects like cell motility modeling and droplet evaporation.
Key awards include EPSRC Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (2004–2007) and Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 Fellowship (2004–2006). His work bridges academic research with practical applications in biomedicine and engineering.
