James Middleton is a Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine (part-time) at The University of Sydney's John Walsh Centre for Rehabilitation Research, part of the School of Health Sciences. He is also a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine with over 25 years of clinical and research experience in spinal cord injury (SCI) medicine and rehabilitation. His roles include Clinical Director of the State Spinal Cord Injury Service (NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation) and Senior Medical Specialist for the Spinal Outreach Service. He has held leadership positions, including Chair of the Australian Spinal Cord Injury Network's Clinical Trials Committee and External Relations Committee for the International Spinal Cord Society.
