James Lee is a Research Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry at the University of York's Department of Chemistry, affiliated with the National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) and Wolfson Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratories. He chairs the Chemistry Department's net-zero working group.
His research focuses on atmospheric chemistry processes impacting air quality, including NOx emissions, tropospheric ozone formation, and methane oxidation in tropical regions. Key investigations involve flux measurements from urban sites (London BT Tower, Beijing, Delhi) and remote environments like the Cape Verde Atmospheric Observatory. Fieldwork utilizes aircraft-based observations via the Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurements (FAAM).
Publication analysis reveals consistent focus on pollution source characterization, atmospheric transport modeling, and climate-chemistry interactions across marine and urban systems. Recent work emphasizes emission validation techniques and pollution mitigation strategies.
