James Kit-Hon Tsoi is an Associate Professor in Dental Materials Science and Assistant Dean (Innovation) at the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong. He also leads the Clinical Artificial Intelligence Research Theme. Tsoi holds BSc and PhD degrees in Applied and Analytical Chemistry and Dental Materials Science from HKU, along with memberships in the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC) and British Computer Society (MBCS), and is a Fellow in Advanced HE (FHEA).
His research focuses on dental materials science, smart manufacturing (CAD/CAM, 3D printing), digital dentistry (AI, data science), and dental education. He has authored over 130 peer-reviewed articles, secured 10 patents, and graduated 36 MSc and 11 PhD students. Tsoi serves on editorial boards of SCI journals like Dental Materials, chairs the IADR-Dental Materials Group, and represents Hong Kong in ISO/TC 106 (Dentistry).
Tsoi’s work bridges clinical innovation and material science, emphasizing AI-driven solutions and biomaterial development. His lab explores 3D-printed dental prosthetics, anti-biofilm materials, and AI applications in diagnostics and prosthesis design. He has been recognized with 8 international conference awards since 2012, reflecting his impactful contributions to the field.
