James Joseph Taylor

Dr. James Joseph Taylor is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management at the University of Mississippi, affiliated with the School of Applied Sciences. He holds a PhD in Nutrition (2005), MBA (1994), and B.S. in Business Administration (1991). With over three decades of industry experience, he has served as an executive chef, general manager, and food and beverage director in hospitality and foodservice sectors.

His research focuses on sustainable food development, foodservice financial analysis, consumer behavior, and operational efficiency. Notable areas include menu analysis using Data Envelopment Analysis, green restaurant practices, robotic chef adoption, and craft beverage consumption trends. He actively contributes to industry through board roles with the Mississippi Hospitality and Restaurant Association and legislative advocacy during the pandemic.

Teaching responsibilities include courses on hospitality accounting, procurement, beverage management, and financial leadership. His work bridges academic research with practical industry challenges, emphasizing experiential learning for students.
