Professor James Jordan is a faculty member at the University of Southampton, serving as Head of the Department of English and co-editor of Holocaust Studies. He holds affiliations with the Parkes Institute for Jewish/non-Jewish Relations and the Centre for Modern and Contemporary Writing. His research focuses on Holocaust representation in media, post-war British media, and cultural studies. He earned his PhD in 2014 with a study on Holocaust narratives in American film and has held roles including the Ian Karten Fellow and Karten Professor in Jewish/non-Jewish Relations.
Education: B.A. English and History (University of Southampton), M.A. Jewish History and Culture, PhD in Film Studies. Current projects include analyzing BBC's Holocaust coverage and exploring location-based narratives via the Leverhulme Trust-funded Story Places initiative. Awards include the Ian Karten Fellowship (2005-06).
Teaching spans English, Film, and History, emphasizing Holocaust studies, media historiography, and cultural representation. He supervises PhD students in English and History and advises on grants such as the British Academy-funded Legacies of the Jewish Other in Slavic Horror Film.
