James H. Buckley is a Professor of Physics at Washington University in St. Louis, affiliated with the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences and the Center for Quantum Leaps. His research focuses on particle astrophysics, dark matter searches (e.g., ADMX collaboration), gamma-ray astronomy, and multi-messenger astrophysics. He leads experimental efforts in quantum-limited sensors and high-speed imaging sensors for astrophysical and biomedical applications.

His research interests include direct and indirect dark matter detection, development of gamma-ray experiments (VERITAS, CTA, APT), and multiwavelength studies of active galaxies, gamma-ray bursts, and supernova remnants. He has received numerous awards, including Fellow of the American Physical Society (2020) and the Shakti Duggal Award (1997). His work spans experimental cosmology, cosmic ray origins, and the design of advanced detector systems.
