Prof. Masahiro Teshima is a Director at the Max Planck Institute for Physics in Munich, Germany. His research focuses on high-energy astrophysical processes, gamma-ray astronomy, and dark matter detection. He leads collaborative projects including the MAGIC Cherenkov telescope array and its successor CTA, as well as the CRESST dark matter experiment in Italy’s Gran Sasso laboratory.
Dr. Teshima holds a PhD from Kyoto University (1986) and has held academic roles at Tokyo University (Associate Professor 1989–2002) and directed the Akeno Observatory (1998–2002). He has pioneered instrumentation for ground-based gamma-ray observations and cosmic ray studies.
His research interests span astroparticle physics, combining particle physics with cosmological questions. Notable contributions include advancing gamma-ray telescope technology and analyzing ultra-high energy cosmic rays.
Key awards include the Shakti P. Duggal Award (1993). He actively contributes to international collaborations like the LEGEND neutrino experiment and MADMAX axion search.
