James Gorton is an Artist Lecturer in Chamber Music at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Music. He has held significant roles with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (1971–2012), Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and multiple other ensembles. Gorton is renowned for his oboe performances, including solo appearances with the PSO and premieres of works like Witold Lutoslawski's Double Concerto. He has also been a chamber musician with groups such as the New Pittsburgh Quintet and Mid-America Woodwind Quintet, performing nationally and internationally. His teaching career includes faculty roles at Duquesne University, Carnegie Mellon University, and Carlow University,培养 students now in leading orchestras globally.
