James Fluckey is the Associate Dean for Research and Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management at Texas A&M University's College of Education and Human Development. He holds a Ph.D. in Physiology from Pennsylvania State University (1995), an M.S. in Exercise Physiology from Ball State University (1992), and a B.S. in Health and Physical Education from Eastern New Mexico University (1990). His research focuses on muscle physiology, exercise-induced adaptations, and mechanisms of muscle atrophy, with particular emphasis on skeletal muscle responses to disuse, aging, and metabolic disorders.
Research interests include the role of exercise in mitigating muscle atrophy during spaceflight, insulin resistance, protein synthesis regulation, and the intersection of exercise and cancer biology.
