James Endersby is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Missouri's College of Arts and Science, where he has held a faculty position since 1991. His academic career spans over three decades with a focus on American political institutions, electoral behavior, and methodological rigor in political science research.
Endersby earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas in 1990, establishing the foundation for his scholarly contributions. His educational background directly informs his expertise in quantitative methods and theoretical modeling within political science.
His research program centers on American politics with particular emphasis on voting behavior, electoral systems, and state/local governance. Recent publications analyze ranked choice voting, legislative assembly size, and electoral innovation's impact on voter turnout. Methodologically, he integrates formal theory with empirical analysis to examine spatial voting models, partisan transmission, and campaign advertising evolution. His work consistently addresses how institutional design shapes political outcomes across American federalism.
Endersby has held significant leadership roles including Director of Canadian Studies at the University of Missouri and served as President of the Southwestern Political Science Association (2015-2016) and the Midwest Association for Canadian Studies (2007-2009). These positions demonstrate his active engagement with professional communities and regional political studies.
