Dr. James Carmalt is a tenured full Professor in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM), University of Saskatchewan. He holds academic credentials including a MA and VetMB from the University of Cambridge, and a PhD from WCVM. His professional certifications include Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (FRCVS) and multiple Diplomate statuses with veterinary colleges.
Dr. Carmalt’s research focuses on equine dentistry (specifically temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disease), equine pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID), and evidence-based medicine. His work has led to over 90 peer-reviewed publications and presentations at international conferences. He is editorial board member of Veterinary Evidence and frequently peer-reviews journals like PLOS One and Veterinary Surgery.
His articles span topics like surgical interventions for TMJ disorders, computational fluid dynamics in equine airway surgery, and radiation safety practices during veterinary imaging. His research highlights innovative techniques in equine TMJ management and explores anatomical and biomechanical aspects of equine musculoskeletal systems.
