James C. Ortengren

James C. Ortengren, D.D.S., is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of New England's College of Dental Medicine. Born in Sweden, he immigrated to Tacoma, Washington, and earned his undergraduate degree from Washington State University (1979) before graduating from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in 1983. He practiced dentistry in Summit, NJ, before moving to Maine in 1987, where he became an active member of the Maine Dental Association and Greater Portland Dental Society. He served as president of the Greater Portland Dental Society and received a significant award for his leadership in water fluoridation efforts.

Dr. Ortengren’s professional affiliations include long-term membership in the American Dental Association and leadership roles in Maine dental organizations. His contributions extend beyond clinical practice to public health advocacy.
