Jalayne J. Arias is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Behavioral Sciences at Georgia State University's School of Public Health. Her research focuses on the intersection of neuroscience, aging, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia with legal, ethical, and policy frameworks. She holds a J.D. from Arizona State University and a M.A. in Bioethics from Case Western Reserve University, alongside a B.A. in International Studies from Pepperdine University.
Her work addresses critical challenges in neurosciences, including employment and insurance discrimination related to Alzheimer’s biomarkers, genetic data-sharing, long-term care financing, and legal protections for older adults in criminal justice systems. She has been funded by NIH (via a K01 Career Development award), the Alzheimer’s Association, Marcus Family Foundation, and others.
Recent research highlights include studies on AI in healthcare, community-engaged research ethics, and policy implications of biomarker testing. She is an Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health at UCSF and has led interdisciplinary initiatives like the Miami Framework for ALS research.
Her advocacy extends to legal education for public health professionals and improving protections for vulnerable populations through policy reforms. Key areas of focus include geriatric mental health in prisons, return-of-results guidelines in genetics research, and ethical frameworks for emerging diagnostic technologies.
