Jakub Zasina is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Regional Economy and Environment at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology, University of Lodz. Currently, he is working as a visiting professor at INRS in Montreal, Canada, thanks to the NAWA Bekker scholarship. His academic career at the University of Lodz includes conducting research, teaching urban topics, and overseeing the student magazine KWARTAŁ.
Dr. Zasina's research focuses on urban studies with particular emphasis on studentification, gentrification, urban change, and urban restructuring. His work examines how student populations influence urban development, housing markets, and spatial transformations in post-industrial cities, particularly in Lodz and Turin. His research interests span urban geography, housing studies, leisure studies, economic geography, and cultural heritage.
His publication record shows a strong focus on student urban dynamics, with recent articles examining how financialization affects student housing, the intersection of studentification with gentrification, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on student cities. His work demonstrates an evolving research trajectory that increasingly connects student behavior with broader urban transformation processes.

Dr. Zasina has successfully supervised numerous students whose diploma theses have won awards in national competitions. He leads several significant research projects including studies on studentification in Montreal and Lodz, the student accommodation market in Lodz, and the impact of the pandemic on student cities. He also manages the IT Section of the Institute of Spatial Management, creating cloud tools and managing websites, demonstrating his technical expertise alongside his academic work.
