Jake Anderson is an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Geosciences at Boise State University. His work focuses on atmospheric acoustics, geoscience instrumentation, and innovative field/analysis methods. He holds a Ph.D. in Geophysics from Boise State University (2018), an M.S. in Geophysics from New Mexico Tech (2013), and a B.S. in Geology and Mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2009).
Research interests include infrasound analysis of volcanic eruptions, seismic/acoustic coupling phenomena, and environmental monitoring systems. He develops low-cost, portable instrumentation like the Gem Infrasound Logger, designed for high-risk environments and mass deployment. Recent projects include studies on fire infrasound, whitewater acoustics, glacier motion monitoring, and cattle behavior tracking via GPS/accelerometer systems.
Publications emphasize infrasound applications in earthquake monitoring, volcanic hazard detection, and hydrological studies. His work bridges geophysical instrumentation with field data collection, focusing on open-source solutions and practical deployment strategies.
Teaching includes GEOPH 536 (Instrumentation and Electronics in Geoscience), emphasizing Python programming and data analysis. He mentors undergraduate researchers in computational infrasound analysis and instrumentation development.
