Jaimie Ellis is a Lecturer in Sociology at Ulster University with a joint appointment in the School of Applied Social and Policy Science and the School of Medicine. She coordinates the modules 'Introduction to Sociology' and 'Sociology of Health and Illness' for the undergraduate sociology program at Magee campus and serves as the Sociology Lead for the graduate entry MBBS program in the School of Medicine. Additionally, she acts as the Patient Public Involvement (PPI) lead in the School of Medicine.
Education: PhD in Sociology from the University of Southampton (2013), focusing on methodological challenges in researching social worlds of children on the autism spectrum.
Ellis’s research centers on social connectedness, personal networks, and their roles in health and wellbeing. She specializes in implementation science, particularly applying health interventions in community and voluntary sectors, and addressing complex issues like loneliness and social isolation. Her work often integrates biopsychosocial frameworks through interdisciplinary collaboration.
Her recent publications highlight trends in tackling loneliness via community social networks (2025), stakeholder perspectives on self-management in chronic conditions (2017), methodological insights into autism research (2017), and systematic reviews on self-management support outcomes (2015). These works span qualitative analysis, RCTs, and healthcare policy synthesis.
Ellis collaborates extensively in interdisciplinary teams, including leadership in process evaluations for the NIHR-funded PALS trial and EU Horizon 2020’s Magnet4Europe consortium. She supervises PhD students in her research domains and contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in health equity and education.
