Ellie Munro is a Research Associate at Sheffield Hallam University's Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR) within the Social and Economic Research Institute (SERI). She joined in May 2022 following a PhD in history and social policy from the University of Birmingham. Her research focuses on voluntary action’s role in community welfare systems, blending historical analysis with neo-institutional theory. She has also served as a Visiting Lecturer at City University of London and the University of Wolverhampton, teaching courses on voluntary action, philanthropy, and campaigning.
Research Projects:
- 2025-2030: Co-investigator (Early Career Lead) in the ESRC-funded Centre for Collaboration in Community Connectedness (C4)
- 2023-2024: Research team member for Local Trust’s Community Led Social Prescribing project
- 2018-2023: Evaluated Black Thrive for Healthwatch Lambeth
- 2019-2021: Contributed to the National Lottery Heritage Fund/National Trust’s Future Parks Accelerator programme evaluation
Key Expertise: Ellie’s work spans disability rights, health policy, children’s rights, and women’s rights. She has extensive voluntary sector experience in policy, campaigning, and evaluation.
