Jaime Gonzalez is a Research Fellow in the Department of Ecology and Evolution within the Faculty of Biology and Medicine at the University of Lausanne. Since 2021, he has worked as a postdoctoral assistant in the Kawecki Group, investigating microbial adaptation in Drosophila melanogaster gut environments under controlled laboratory conditions. His office is located in room 2107.2 with contact number +4121 692 4255.
His academic background includes:
- PhD and MSc in Medical Microbiology (2014-2019) from the University of Surrey, UK
- EMBO short term fellowship (2019) at the University of Zurich, Switzerland
- Postgraduate diploma in bioinformatics (2020) from Universidad Pablo Olavide, Spain
Dr. Gonzalez's research centers on evolutionary adaptation of gut microbes in Drosophila and the role of nutritional resources in host-microbe dynamics. He employs experimental evolution, microbiota analysis, genetic manipulation, and microscopy techniques as part of the NCCR "Microbiomes" initiative. His work bridges microbial ecology, evolutionary genetics, and nutritional science to understand adaptation mechanisms in symbiotic systems.
Key research domains include:
- Microbiome-host coevolution
- Nutritional modulation of microbial fitness
- Experimental evolution methodologies
- Drosophila-microbe model systems
- Genetic basis of host adaptation
- Ecological dynamics in gut environments
Prior to his current position, he served as a research assistant at Ibbtec in Santander, Spain (2020).
