Dr Jai Carmichael is a Research Fellow in the School of Psychological Sciences at Monash University and a Clinical Neuropsychology Registrar at Peninsula Health. His work bridges clinical practice and research, focusing on neuropsychiatric consequences of acquired brain injury (ABI), suicidality, and psychopathology. He leads projects funded by Epworth HealthCare and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, developing clinical tools and co-designing resources for ABI patients. With over 10 peer-reviewed articles, he reviews for 15 journals and supervises Honours students. Awards include the Monash Epworth Rehabilitation Research Centre Excellence Award (2024) and the ASSBI Kevin Walsh Award (2019).

Research Interests: Dr Carmichael explores transdiagnostic approaches to ABI-related psychopathology, using data-driven methods to classify neuropsychiatric problems. His work emphasizes clinical translation, including frameworks for assessment and predictive validity. He investigates mechanisms underlying post-ABI distress, targeting treatment strategies for self-harm and suicidality.
