Jaehoon Shin, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor In Residence in the Interventional Radiology section at UCSF's Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging. He completed an MD at Seoul National University (2008) and a PhD at Johns Hopkins University (2016), followed by clinical training including an internship at MedStar Harbor Hospital and diagnostic radiology residency at UCSF. His research focuses on T-cell-based imaging (synNotch-PET), T-cell therapy for pancreatic cancer and glioblastoma, and single-cell RNA sequencing for venous insufficiency. Notable awards include the Samsung Scholarship and Best Case in Neuroradiology (2019). He leads a Society for Interventional Radiology-funded pilot grant and collaborates on a Kleberg Foundation award. His work bridges molecular biology, radiology, and clinical oncology, with over 40 publications since 2011.

Research Interests: Dr. Shin pioneers novel imaging modalities and therapeutic strategies targeting cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. His lab develops PET imaging systems to detect early-stage tumors and investigates locoregional T-cell therapies to enhance cancer treatment efficacy. He also explores epigenetic mechanisms in adult neurogenesis and venous insufficiency using single-cell RNA sequencing. His work integrates advanced imaging techniques with molecular biology to improve diagnostic accuracy and therapeutic outcomes.
Awards & Grants: Recipient of prestigious Samsung Scholarship for doctoral studies and 2019 Best Case in Neuroradiology. Principal Investigator on a Society for Interventional Radiology grant and collaborator on a Kleberg Foundation award. His research has been recognized in high-impact journals like Nature Neuroscience and Cell Stem Cell.
Labs & Teams: Active in UCSF's Radiology and Biomedical Imaging division, collaborating with teams specializing in molecular imaging, cancer biology, and stem cell research. Leads interdisciplinary projects involving clinicians, bioengineers, and computational biologists to advance translational medicine.
