Dr. Matt Barkovich is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), School of Medicine. He joined UCSF in 2019 following a Neuroradiology fellowship and a NIH T32 Research Fellowship focusing on neurofibromatosis type 1 imaging. His expertise lies in advanced neuroimaging techniques to study neurodevelopmental disorders and normal brain development. He holds an MD from UC San Diego School of Medicine (2013), completed residency in Diagnostic Radiology at UCSF (2018), and an internship at Highland Hospital (2014).

His publications highlight advancements in deep learning for MRI, neuro-ophthalmology imaging, and refining Dandy-Walker phenotype definitions.
Dr. Barkovich collaborates widely, contributing to interdisciplinary teams in UCSF’s Radiology department. His work emphasizes improving patient safety and ethical practices in radiology, as seen in his advocacy-related publications.
