Jade French is a Lecturer in English and Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at Loughborough University, where she researches twentieth-century literature, modernism, and ageing studies. Her current project examines emotion, ageing, and care homes in post-war British novels. She holds a PhD from Queen Mary, University of London (2016–2020), and prior fellowships include the Vice-Chancellor’s Independent Research Fellowship (Loughborough, 2022) and a Research Associate role at the University of Stirling (2021–2022).
Her academic journey includes an MA in The Contemporary from the University of Kent (2015) and a BA in English from Queen Mary (2013). Research interests span modernist poetics, women’s writing, intergenerational relationships, and visual culture. She co-founded Decorating Dissidence, an interdisciplinary project exploring craft’s political and aesthetic dimensions, collaborating with institutions like the Young V&A and Glasgow Zine Library.
Jade’s awards include the Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship (2024) and British Academy/Royal Irish Academy Knowledge Frontiers funding (2022). Her monograph Modernist Poetics of Ageing is forthcoming with OUP (2025). She has published in Women: A Cultural Review, MAI Journal, and Feminist Modernist Studies, alongside media contributions to The Times Literary Supplement, Wired, and CBC Books.
Her work bridges academia and public engagement, including curatorial projects focused on emerging artists and collaborative dialogues. She actively uses creative methods in research, teaching, and public talks, such as her BBC Free Thinking appearance and PEAKS talk series.
