Jacques Derenne is a Professor at the Brussels School of Competition and holds the role of Associate Professor (maître de conférences) at the University of Liège, where he teaches State aid law as part of the LL.M in Competition and Intellectual Property Law. He is also Head of EU Competition & Regulatory at Sheppard Mullin in Brussels. His academic and professional focus lies in EU competition law, State aid, regulatory issues, and EU constitutional law.

Research interests include EU constitutional law, competition law, regulatory frameworks, and the economics of State aid. He has published extensively on these topics and collaborates with experts like Joachim Wiemann and Vincent Verouden. Jacques is a founding member of the Global Competition Law Centre, serving on its Scientific Council and Executive Committee.
He previously taught competition law at the Brussels Bar (2002–2008) and remains active in legal education and professional practice.
