Jacqueline Peltier Horn is a Professor of Biology at Houston Christian University (HCU), affiliated with the College of Science and Engineering and the Department of Biology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, a BS in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University, and an AS in Sciences from Alvin Community College.
Her teaching focuses on microbiology, molecular biology, and fostering critical thinking through undergraduate research. She incorporates research components into her courses, such as the Microbiology course, where student findings are presented annually at HCU’s spring symposium. Her research interests span tumor virology, genetics, and science education strategies.
Dr. Horn has received numerous awards, including the Opal Goolsby Award for Teaching Excellence (1999, 2014) and recognition as HCU’s Outstanding Advisor of the Year (2007). She is also a NACADA Certificate of Merit recipient for advising excellence.
She actively serves on academic committees, including the Academic Affairs Committee, Human Subjects Review Committee, and Cain Science Scholarship Committee. Additionally, she chairs the NCAA Athletics Certification Officer role and the HCU Honors College committee. She advises pre-optometry students through HCU-POPS and holds roles in professional organizations like the UTHealth Development Board and the Alumni Steering Committee of the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. Horn’s contributions extend to textbook reviewing, science fair consulting, and promoting scientific literacy. Her professional activities are complemented by hobbies in learning, reading, and photography.
