Darryl Horn, PhD, is an Associate Professor at Drexel University, holding roles in the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Basic and Biomedical Sciences, and Audiology programs. He serves as Director of the Post-baccalaureate Program in Health Sciences and Graduate Programs in Biomedicine. His academic background includes a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Miami, an MS in Microbiology from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and a BS in Biology from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, with postdoctoral training in cancer biology at Scripps Research Institute.
Horn’s research focuses on mitochondrial biology, particularly cytochrome c oxidase assembly, copper metabolism, and respiratory chain dysfunction. His work explores mechanisms of enzyme biogenesis, translational regulation, and mitochondrial protein import pathways. Published in journals like Molecular Cell Biology and Journal of Biological Chemistry, his studies address cellular metabolic pathways and genetic disorders linked to mitochondrial dysfunction.
Awarded Fellow status in the American Academy of Optometry, Horn’s professional contributions bridge basic science and clinical applications in biomedical education. His leadership in academic programs emphasizes training future health professionals through interdisciplinary curricula and early clinical exposure.
