Dr. Oleh Khalimonchuk is the Susan J. Rosowski Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a member of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, as well as the Center for Iron & Hematology Disorders at the University of Utah. He earned his Ph.D. from TU Dresden/Max-Planck Institute for Cell Biology & Genetics in Germany (2006) and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Utah School of Medicine (Salt Lake City).
Research Interests: Dr. Khalimonchuk investigates fundamental mitochondrial processes, particularly intramitochondrial heme trafficking in health and disease, and the neuroprotective roles of mitochondrial quality control factors. His work bridges mitochondrial biochemistry, cellular metabolism, and their implications in aging-associated complex diseases.
Article Trends: His recent publications (2023–2025) focus on mitochondrial heme transport, protease regulation of mitochondrial ultrastructure, copper site biogenesis in cytochrome c oxidase, and links between mitochondrial dysfunction and cancer/neurodegeneration. Key themes include respiratory supercomplex stability, proteostasis, and redox signaling.
Scientific Awards: He holds the Willa Cather Professorship and the Susan J. Rosowski Professor of Biochemistry, recognizing his contributions to mitochondrial research.
Collaborations: Dr. Khalimonchuk collaborates with institutions including the University of Nebraska Medical Center and University of Utah, focusing on mitochondrial fidelity in cancer and metabolic disorders.
