Jacob Schwartz Walker is a Lecturer in Landscape Architecture at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (GSD). He is a co-founder of Ballistic Architecture Machine (BAM), a transdisciplinary design practice based in Beijing and Shanghai. His work focuses on urban landscapes, public infrastructure, and environmental issues in rapidly growing Asian cities. He splits his time between Boston and Beijing since 2022.
Education: BArch from Cornell University, Master’s in Design Studies from Harvard GSD.
Research interests include urban landscape design, retail-park integration, digital landscapes, and the intersection of physical/digital spaces. BAM’s notable projects include the Indigo Playground (Beijing), Shanghai Waste-to-Energy Plant, and Urban Initiatives like 'Reimagining Guomao' and 'Save Chaotianmen.'
Awards include Kyoto Global Design Award (2023) and Architizer A+Awards (2024). He lectures globally, including at the University of Toronto, University of Hong Kong, and Philippine Green Building Council. His GSD course 'Disciplinary Elasticity and Alternative Practice' explores unconventional design practices beyond traditional professional fields.
