Jacob Habinek is an Associate Professor and Docent at Linköping University, Sweden, affiliated with the Department of Management and Engineering (IEI) and the Institute for Analytical Sociology (IAS). He holds a PhD in Sociology from UC Berkeley and a Docent in Sociology from Linköping University. His research focuses on economic sociology, computational social science, and the sociology of knowledge, with a particular emphasis on institutional dynamics in science, literature, and financial markets.

Research Interests: Habinek’s work examines how institutions evolve in uncertain environments, including studies of the Nobel Prize’s global influence, the financialization of higher education, and the historical development of scientific disciplines. He uses computational text analysis and social network analysis to explore these topics, contributing to fields like economic sociology and the sociology of science.

Labs & Collaborations: As Deputy Director of IAS, he leads projects on computational social science and collaborates with institutions like the Max Planck Institutes and the European Network for the Science of Science. His work bridges sociology with digital humanities and computational infrastructure development.
