Jackie Gendel is a Professor in the Department of Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). She earned her BFA from Washington University (1996) and MFA from Yale University (1998).
Her practice explores contradictions in modern image production, particularly through serial repetition and narrative sequencing. This stems from her background in underground comics, where she contributed to feminist webzines in the late 1990s.
Gendel's work has been exhibited at Jeff Bailey Gallery (New York), Loyal Gallery (Malmö, Sweden), and Bryan Miller Gallery (Houston, TX). It resides in collections like the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art and the Progressive Collection, and has been featured in Art in America, Artforum, The New York Times, and The New Yorker.
