Jacki Liddle

Associate Professor Jacki Liddle is an occupational therapist and researcher at The University of Queensland, affiliated with the Centre for Neurorehabilitation, Ageing and Balance Research and the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences. She holds a conjoint position with Princess Alexandra Hospital, focusing on clinical research to improve patient outcomes. Her work integrates innovative technology and mixed-methods research to address quality of life, community participation, and life transitions for individuals with neurological conditions (dementia, Parkinson's disease, stroke), older adults, and their caregivers.

Her research emphasizes driving cessation and mobility transitions, leading to the development of the CarFreeMe program—a client-centered telehealth intervention for older adults, people with dementia, and those with traumatic brain injury. She has also contributed to smartphone-based remote monitoring systems for community outcomes and co-designed technologies for dementia care communication. Current projects include evaluating the Action Falls rehabilitation program for stroke survivors and exploring falls prevention mechanisms through realist methodology.

A key theme in her work is inclusive research practices, including collaborations with people with lived experience and policy navigation for spinal cord injury patients. Her publications span systematic reviews, clinical trials, and qualitative studies on dementia care, driving cessation, assistive technology, and neurorehabilitation outcomes. Supervisory roles include mentoring PhD students on topics like orthopedic recovery, falls management, and co-designing clinical pathways.

She actively seeks to translate research into clinical practice, with recent grants from NHMRC, Dementia Australia Research Foundation, and Metro South Hospital and Health Service to support ethical technology use in dementia care, falls prevention in stroke, and neuropsychological diagnostic tools for Parkinson's disease.
