Dr. Robyn Lamont is a Research Fellow at The University of Queensland, affiliated with the Centre for Neurorehabilitation, Ageing and Balance Research within the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences. She is a physiotherapist by training with expertise in neurological rehabilitation, particularly focusing on Parkinson's disease and community ambulation.
Dr. Lamont's educational background includes:
- Bachelor's degree from The University of Queensland
- Masters (Coursework) of Physiotherapy Studies from The University of Queensland
- Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Queensland, with her thesis titled "Community ambulation in people with Parkinson's disease"
Her research interests center around the assessment and physiotherapy management of people with neurological conditions, particularly Parkinson's disease. She investigates community ambulation, participation, and the factors associated with community ambulation ability and disability in this population. Her work integrates technology such as wearable activity trackers, geolocation data, and telehealth approaches to better understand and improve mobility and quality of life for people with neurological conditions. Dr. Lamont's research spans neurorehabilitation, gerontology, digital health, and mobility studies, with a particular focus on how technology can enhance assessment and intervention approaches.
Analysis of Dr. Lamont's publications reveals a consistent research trajectory focused on mobility and community participation in neurological populations. Her work increasingly incorporates digital health technologies for monitoring and assessment, reflecting a growing trend in her field. She has made significant contributions to understanding Parkinson's disease management, falls prevention, and the application of technology in rehabilitation settings. Her research often involves interdisciplinary collaboration across neurology, gerontology, engineering, and computer science.
Dr. Lamont has received research funding from various sources including:
- Wesley Medical Research Ltd (2017-2024) for a physiotherapy exercise program with a self-management approach to improve physical activity in people with mild-moderate Parkinson's disease
- University of New South Wales (2014-2016) for research on Lifespace and people with dementia
- Parkinson's Queensland Inc (2011) for measuring and understanding community walking in people with Parkinson disease
Dr. Lamont is actively involved in research supervision and is currently available to supervise PhD students. She is co-supervising a project titled "Allied Health Service Delivery needs for people with Parkinson's disease in Australia," which aims to map existing services, identify areas of need, and research potential solutions to meet these needs.
She is affiliated with the Centre for Neurorehabilitation, Ageing and Balance Research, where she contributes to interdisciplinary research efforts focused on improving outcomes for older adults and those with neurological conditions through innovative rehabilitation approaches.
