Dr. Melanie Hoyle is a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at The University of Queensland, affiliated with the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences within the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences. With a strong clinical background and academic expertise, she contributes significantly to occupational therapy education and research focused on community participation and rehabilitation.
Dr. Hoyle holds a diverse educational background including a Doctor of Philosophy of Occupational Therapy and a Doctor of Philosophy of Allied Health from The University of Queensland (completed in 2022), a Masters (Coursework) of Occupational Therapy Studies (2004), a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science (Women's Health) from Queensland University of Technology, a Postgraduate Diploma from Central Queensland University, and a Bachelor of Science from The University of Queensland. Her education spans science, psychology, health management, and health promotion.
Dr. Hoyle's research focuses on factors impacting community participation, particularly for people with disabilities and those recovering from stroke. Her work explores personal factors affecting participation and life satisfaction, assistive technology and home modifications, the impact of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) on service provision, and facilitating leisure opportunities for people with disabilities. She takes a client-centered approach, emphasizing partnership with individuals to support their participation in meaningful occupations regardless of health condition.
Her recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on rehabilitation, community participation, and occupational therapy interventions, with particular emphasis on stroke recovery, assistive technology, and the NDIS. Her work bridges clinical practice and research, contributing to evidence-based approaches in occupational therapy.

As Clinical Education Strategy Committee Chair, she plays a key role in shaping clinical education approaches and connecting academic research with practical applications in rehabilitation settings.
