Dr. Emmah Doig is a Conjoint Senior Research Fellow in Occupational Therapy at The University of Queensland’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. She holds affiliations with the Centre for Neurorehabilitation, Ageing and Balance Research and the STARS Education and Research Alliance. Her research focuses on neurorehabilitation, metacognitive strategies, and knowledge translation, with expertise in goal-setting methodologies and outcomes after brain injury. Dr. Doig completed her PhD in 2010, examining outpatient brain injury rehabilitation efficacy.
Education: Bachelor (Honours) and PhD in Occupational Therapy from The University of Queensland.
Research Interests:
- Person-centered goal setting in neurorehabilitation
- Cognitive and metacognitive interventions for traumatic brain injury
- Implementation science and research translation
- Technology in rehabilitation (e.g., driving simulators, digital assessments)
- Community-based rehabilitation programs
Her publications and grants highlight contributions to improving clinical practices, such as developing the Client-Centredness of Goal Setting Scale (C-COGS) and co-founding BRAINSPAN, a multidisciplinary network for brain injury researchers and clinicians. She has secured 13 competitive grants, including NHMRC funding for falls prevention in stroke survivors.
Advising and Grants: Supervised over 8 research students, including PhD candidates in areas like lymphedema management and stroke rehabilitation. Current projects include the FISS-Australia trial evaluating falls interventions.
Labs/Teams: Active in the STARS Alliance and collaborates with organizations like the National Stroke Foundation and Metro North Hospital and Health Service.
