Dr. Jack Lennon is a Lecturer in Ancient History at the University of Leicester, affiliated with the School of Archaeology and Ancient History. He holds a PhD from the University of Nottingham (2011) and has held positions at Nottingham, Kent, and University College London. His research focuses on Roman cultural history, particularly Roman religion and magic, societal perceptions of dirt/dirtiness, and processes of marginalization/stigmatization in antiquity. His 2022 book, Dirt and Denigration: Stigma and Marginalisation in Ancient Rome, analyzes stigmatized groups in Roman society and their cultural legacies. Lennon is also a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (2022).
Research interests bridge ancient and medieval contexts, exploring how stigmatizing practices evolved over time. He actively engages in public outreach, delivering talks to schools across the Midlands and beyond to promote understanding of the ancient world. His teaching responsibilities at Leicester include overseeing modules and fostering interdisciplinary approaches to historical analysis.
