Dr. Jane Draycott is a Lecturer in Classics at the University of Glasgow. Her research focuses on ancient medicine, disability studies, prosthetics, and classical reception in modern media. She holds a PhD in Classics from the University of Nottingham (2011) and has held fellowships at the British School at Rome and the University of Glasgow. Her work explores topics such as ancient assistive technology, the representation of bodies in antiquity, and the portrayal of classical antiquity in computer games.
Key publications include Prosthetics and Assistive Technology in Ancient Greece and Rome (Cambridge University Press, 2023), Cleopatra’s Daughter (2022), and edited volumes on prostheses and classical video games. She has been awarded grants from the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Wellcome Trust, and AHRC, among others.
Research interests span Egyptian and Roman medicine, disability in antiquity, and the use of classical themes in modern advertising and gaming. Dr. Draycott teaches courses on ancient medicine, Cleopatra’s legacy, and classical technology, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches.
