Dr. Jack Lee is a Senior Lecturer in Higher Education at the University of Glasgow, specialising in educational policy and geopolitics. He joined Glasgow in 2023 as Programme Leader for the MSc International and Comparative Education. With diverse international experience, he has held roles at institutions including the University of British Columbia (Canada), Nazarbayev University (Kazakhstan), and the University of Bath. His research focuses on the politics of higher education, decolonisation, and soft power dynamics. Lee holds a PhD from the University of Toronto, an M.Ed. from the University of British Columbia, and a B.Sc. in Microbiology & Immunology.
His research interests span the comparative analysis of global higher education systems, geopolitics in education policymaking, and the intersection of soft power with academic institutions. Notable work includes critiques of decolonisation discourse and studies on Asian education hubs' roles in international relations. Lee has been awarded the Best Dissertation (Higher Education SIG, CIES) in 2015 and was a runner-up for Teacher of the Year at Edinburgh University (2021).
Lee supervises doctoral students in areas such as transnational education, cosmopolitanism in schools, and Chinese higher education governance. He teaches courses on education internationalisation and research methods. Professional activities include editorial board roles for Compare and membership in the British Association for International and Comparative Education (BAICE).
