Jack Fosten is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Data Analytics at Bayes Business School, City, University of London, where he also serves as Course Director of the BSc Business Analytics program. Previously, he held academic roles at King's Business School and the University of East Anglia. He is a Research Associate at the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence (ESCoE), contributing to projects like the NHS England evaluation of Virtual Wards.
He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Surrey (2016), an MSc from the University of Warwick (2011), and a BSc from the University of Bath (2010). He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and has been recognized for teaching excellence with multiple nominations and shortlistings for King's Education Awards between 2019–2023.
Dr. Fosten’s research focuses on econometrics, nowcasting, forecast evaluation, functional data, and quantile regression, applied to macroeconomic, financial, health, energy, and environmental contexts. His work has been published in top journals like the Journal of Econometrics and Journal of Business & Economic Statistics. Notable projects include nowcasting U.S. state-level CO2 emissions and leading NHS England’s Virtual Wards quantitative analysis (2025–2027).
Teaching emphasizes blended learning with flipped videos and interactive quizzes. He is fluent in Catalan, German, and Spanish. His current research includes topics like autoregressive difference-in-differences and sparsity tests in high-dimensional time series.
